Luka Modric: Qatar World Cup will probably be my last tournament.

The 37-year-old Luka Modric recently accepted an interview with the FIFA streaming channel "FIFA+". According to him, the Qatar World Cup 2022 is likely to be his last tournament.

Four years ago, Luka Modric led the Croatia to the World Cup runner-up. After that, Ćorluka, Subotica and Mandžukić, who belonged to his generation, retired successively, and even Rakitić, who was younger than him, also quit the national team early. The reason why Modric persisted was entirely out of his love for his motherland.

In fact, after finishing Euro 2020, Modric thought about saying goodbye to the national team, but in the end, he chose to stay, wanting to contribute to the national team, play a big role, and help young people grow, let them understand what playing for the Croatia national football team means.



Recalling his national team career, Modric lamented that the honors he has won are very remarkable. Whether in the career or in life, nothing is easy.

Modric has played 154 times for Croatia so far and scored 23 goals, making him the second-most capped player in the history of the national team as a captain (behind Srna). In order to continue his career longer, Modric may officially bid farewell to the national team after the Qatar World Cup.
