Louis Van Gaal Plays Down Brazil’s Performances Ahead Of Argentina World Cup Clash
Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal has played down Brazil’s impact at the 2022 FIFA World Cup after their impressive display against South Korea in the round of 16, Voetbalkrant reports.

The Oranje boss made the comments ahead of his clash against Argentina in Qatar with the former Ajax boss keen to settle a score against the Albicelestes the last time he was the Dutch head coach – and when Netherlands were in a World Cup.

The eventual winner in that match could well face Brazil – so long as they beat Croatia at the Education City Stadium – but Van Gaal still believes his side have a great chance of securing the trophy later this month.

But the 71-year-old head coach, who is in his third stint at the Dutch national side, wants to get revenge after missing out of the 2014 World Cup final to Argentina after losing on penalties in Brazil.

“I have been saying for months that the Netherlands can become world champions. This is just another match and another opponent on our path. Moreover, we still have a score to settle.”

The winner will play on Tuesday night with many expecting to face Brazil after their convincing 4-1 win against South Korea has only strengthened their case as to why they are the favourites to win this winter’s competition. But despite many praising the free-flowing Selecao, Van Gaal does not see the hype.

“I have read in the Dutch media that Brazilian football is so scintillating. Have you seen them play? That’s a counter team. Nothing more than a counter team. South Korea is the only team that did attack.”
